UI Designer
Job Description:
The newly formed HP Emerging Businesses
Unit has a mission to develop new businesses that provide significant
growth opportunities for HP's Personal Systems Group. As the HP Experience
Software Business, we are tasked with developing software that gives
people compelling, easy-to-use experiences and services on their personal
computing and entertainment devices including HP PC's, laptops, phones,
and home entertainment products.
This position will lead the efforts
that will design fun, intuitive and innovative user interfaces for the
next generation of our products and will be accountable for the design
output throughout the life cycle. This position will also be responsible
for providing clear specifications for product management for iteration
and for development direction, from concept to implementation. This
role will lead design reviews, work closely with engineers, product
managers and UE designers, to uncover issues, vet constraints and refine
requirements.
Job responsibilities include a subset
of the following:
- Collaborate in concept
development and design ideation
- Clearly translate requirements,
and dissect complex workflows into intuitive and simple designs
- Deliver user interface
specifications that communicate design solutions, through work flow
modeling, wire frames and style specifications
- Be accountable for design
end-end, from concepts and prototypes to specific UI specifications
and final implementation
- Collaborate effectively
other designers, researchers, engineering, product management, marketing,
and other team members
- Contribute strong leadership
skills that help drive best outcome for stakeholders, resulting in others
learning from you, and inspiring others to want to work with you
- Suggest solutions that
optimize requirements and balance technological realities
- Leverage existing UI
patterns and guidelines, and contribute to new ones
- Maintain and evangelize
for consistency within UE guidelines and principles across all features
- Be up to date in UI technologies
and their application, and how they influence both the design itself
and the agility of the design-development process (use of IDEs, creating
designs quickly to render functionally in prototypes, how to effectively
collaborate with UI engineers)
- Push the boundaries of
what is possible to create better experiences for users
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in
Interaction Design, Graphic Design, or related fields of study such
as Human Factors, Communication Design or Information Design.
- Proven track record of
user experience advocacy, well-versed in both the art and science of
product design and the development of software products
- Expertise with in tools
such as Flash, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.
- Knowledge and design
experience in UI patterns using Ajax, DHTML, Flash or other rich internet
application technologies
- Portfolio, which clearly
demonstrates successful user-centric software design solutions, should
be available for viewing
Preferred:
- Academic background in
human factors/ergonomics, cognitive science, psychology or HCI
- Design experience in
mobile software
